The background

An enormous amount of background information has been written in the last few years about the perceived dangers of mobile phone usage. Knowledge of the hazards of non-ionising radiation has been around for the last 50 years. Whereas the Russians took these problems seriously, it would appear that Western industrial societies have weighted the economic benefits against health problems and decided that the economy was more important than public health.

In a recent paper issued by the Independent Expert Group on Mobile Phones (IEGMP) (commissioned by the UK government) and led by Sir William Stewart, it was stated that mobile phone users might well experience long term exposure effects that will damage health. Children were especially at risk due to their thinner skulls, and mobile phone producers were particularly criticised for luring children to use mobiles as ‘back to school’ essentials.
